COMMON FOOT CONCERN AND
TREATMENT OPTIONS

For all foot ailments the Chiropodist will provide an individual treatment plan.
It is necessary as each patient is unique in their gait, pain level and footwear accommodations.

VERRUCA PEDIS (PLANTAR WART)

The most common viral infection seen in the tissues is the plantar wart. It is benign tumorous swelling in the epidermis caused by the human papillomavirus virus.
Some patients experience no pain from the warts but are aware of the contagious nature and unsightly appearance of the wart. Others feel a sharp, lancing pain during activity and at rest, a burning sensation.

CHIROPODIAL TREATMENT
  • Establish the type of wart and location so an appropriate treatment can be determined
  • Choice of medicament determined, ex. Salicylic acid compound, pyrogallic acid, silver nitrate, Cryoprobe or Canthacur
  • Applications may be repeated to resolve the wart and sterile dressings are applied after each debridement of the area
  • Patient is advised on the care of the area between visits and any preventative advice is also given
