COMMON FOOT CONCERN AND
TREATMENT OPTIONS

For all foot ailments the Chiropodist will provide an individual treatment plan.
It is necessary as each patient is unique in their gait, pain level and footwear accommodations.

DIGITAL DEFORMITIES

Recognizing digital deformities has to be made with the patient standing, as the position of the toes changes when the foot is weight-bearing. Clawed and hammered toes are the most common digital conditions that cause a lot of discomfort to the affected persons. The lesions that develop from these deformities are callouses or corns that can occur on the plantar metatarsal heads, on the dorsal interphalangeal joints or on the apices of the digits. Thickened or curled nails are also a common result of these deformities and will cause the individual to seek professional help.

CHIROPODIAL TREATMENT
  • Recognition of the etiology, e.g. Systemic diseases or structural misalignment
  • Chiropodial treatment of the lesions and/or nails
  • Corrective or palliative padding manufactured to resolve initial complaint
  • Verbal and written advice on the care of the condition and on the maintenance of the orthotic or silicone device
  • Referral for surgical consult may be necessary if the condition persists or is severe
